The Story

Every November, Benidorm throws a party so big, so loud, and so colourful that it shuts down the entire town for nearly a week.

The Fiestas Mayores Patronales honour the Virgen del Sufragio and San Jaime Apóstol — two patron saints born from a legend of fire and faith. In 1740, a ship washed ashore during a storm. The townspeople, fearing plague, burned it. Among the ashes, they found a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary — completely untouched by the flames. That statue became Benidorm’s patroness, and the celebration has grown into Spain’s most explosive fiesta week.

🔥 What Makes It Unmissable

💥

Mascletà

Not fireworks — sound fireworks. A coordinated thunder of gunpowder that rattles your chest and shakes the buildings. The ground literally vibrates. Benidorm’s mascletà is a sensory assault in the best possible way.

🎪

The Peñas

Social clubs that form the backbone of Benidorm’s fiesta culture. Each peña has its own headquarters, colours, traditions, and fierce loyalty. During fiesta week they open their doors to everyone — food, drinks, music, and a welcome that feels like family.

🌊

Floral Offering & Sea Procession

Thousands of residents in traditional dress parade through the old town carrying flowers to the church of San Jaime. Then the Virgen del Sufragio is carried to the port and taken out to sea in a boat procession — flares, horns, and absolute devotion.

🎆

Castillo de Fuegos

The grand fireworks castle — a massive pyrotechnic display over Poniente Beach that turns the night sky into a canvas of fire. The finale is so intense it feels like the stars themselves are celebrating.
